The research highlights that much of the UK population currently feels distanced from those who live closest to them, particularly in the larger cities. However, it also reveals that the British public is rooting for a return to a time when community spirit was valued, albeit against a backdrop of increasing neighbourly disputes and fragmented neighbourhoods, with half of all the British people claiming their neighbours annoy them. Three-quarters of the population would welcome the chance to get involved in activities to bring their neighbourhoods closer together and would like to get to know their neighbours better.
